BT: 55,000 jobs cut
British telecommunications giant BT announced plans to cut up to 55,000 jobs by 2030, representing 42% of its workforce. The company cited the completion of its fiber broadband and 5G network rollout as reducing the need for maintenance staff. BT CEO Philip Jansen said the company would "digitise the way we work and simplify our structure" as part of becoming a leaner organization. The cuts follow similar layoffs across the tech sector amid inflationary pressures.
